Colorado Law requires persons convicted of certain sex crimes to register with the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction where they reside. An annual registration is required on the offender's birthday. Adults convicted of certain specific sexual offenses are required to register every three months as well.
The Patrol Division conducts ongoing checks to ensure that sex offenders are in compliance with the law and actually live where they have registered. Failure to register as required is a crime that is investigated and vigorously prosecuted.
The Wheat Ridge Police Department is releasing the following information pursuant to Colorado Revised Statues 16-13-901 through 16-13-906, which authorize law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a sex offender’s relocation to the community when the offender has been determined to be a Sexually Violent Predator. The purpose of this notification is to enhance public safety and protection.
The individual depicted in this notification has been convicted of a sex offense that requires law enforcement registration. This person has been determined to present a high potential to reoffend and is therefore subject to community notification regarding his/her residence in the community.
The Wheat Ridge Police Department has no legal authority to prohibit sex offenders from living in our community. Sex offenders have always lived in our communities, but they were not required to notify law enforcement until registration laws were implemented.
