Citizen Police Academy


The purpose of the Citizen Police Academy is to give people who live and/or work in the City of Wheat Ridge an opportunity to learn first-hand about the inner-workings of the Wheat Ridge Police Department.

Police and civilian personnel will present lectures and demonstrations in order to give Citizen Police Academy participants an understanding of the Department's mission, practices, and operations. The Academy is not being held to train citizens as police officers or to give citizens police authority of any kind.


The Department will consider applicants who meet the following requirements:
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Willing to sign a Waiver of Liability
  • No felony convictions
  • No domestic violence convictions
  • No significant or recent misdemeanor convictions
