Garden Features

The Wheat Ridge Community Gardeners of America in cooperation with the City of Wheat Ridge Forestry Section have been working closely for over 20 years in sponsoring the Community Gardens.

Located at 42nd Ave. and Ammons St., and known as the Happiness Gardens, these gardens give people a chance to taste delicious home-grown vegetables. Each gardener receives a 10' x 20' plot and is provided tilled ground and water. Five raised beds are accessible for physically challenged gardeners at no charge. Plots are available for both vegetable and flower gardens.

For more information see the Activities Guide at Recreation Activity Guides or call the Recreation Center at (303) 231-1300.
Construction continues on the south end of Happiness Gardens. This project employed the involvement of an Amicorp Youth Crew sponsored through the Jefferson Country Conservation District and assistance from our local Mile High Youth Corp crews. We have welcomed all their youthful enthusiasm and strong backs.

Still in the works
  • The raised beds are being replaced and more are being built.
  • A new water delivery system will make watering beds easier.
  • A shade shelter will be installed this summer affording an out of the sun spot to share gardening tips.
  • We are hoping to plant a few fruit trees yet this year or next spring.
We are hoping to have everything completed by later this summer.
