The newly-announced Wheat Ridge Environmental Sustainability Committee (WRESC) aims to involve the community in recommending and prioritizing sustainability goals for the City of Wheat Ridge municipal operations and other community-wide efforts.
The WRESC will provide recommendations on effective environmental programs and policies to the City Council and will serve as a forum for the community to offer input concerning environmental sustainability within the following six topic areas:
Committee MembershipThe WRESC is comprised of nine Wheat Ridge residents appointed by the Mayor and ratified by a vote of the City Council. Each Council member will be encouraged to nominate between three and five applicants for the Mayor’s consideration. Primary consideration will be given to those applicants with environmental knowledge and/or interest with the aim of achieving a combination of experts and non-experts, reflecting the diversity of the community. The Mayor will give preference, where possible, to persons who are actively engaged with environmental sustainability issues. The Committee will be self-directed but will periodically provide updates to City Council.
