A Steering Committee is being formed to update the strategy representing multiple interests of the community to provide guidance during a year-long study.
In 2005, City Council adopted the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy (NRS) Report, Repositioning Wheat Ridge, and adopted its findings and recommendations as guiding principles for revitalizing the City. The City is looking to establish a committee that represents new and long-term residents, renters and homeowners, business owners, and other critical community stakeholders. The strategies and recommendations contained in the NRS are focused on leveraging the City’s strengths and addressing its challenges to assist in returning the City to a vibrant community with a healthy housing market and the thriving commercial centers needed to generate fiscal stability.
To serve on the NRS Steering Committee, formal expertise is not required in physical planning, the technicalities of zoning and other regulations, or public policy. However, since these and related subjects will comprise some of the committee’s time, a willingness to learn and actively and constructively work as a team is necessary.
Steering Committee members should be able to commit to the entire project which may take upwards of a year. While recognizing it is not possible for everyone to make every meeting, everyone should be able to be reliably prepared and present for 90 percent of the meetings. It is estimated that there will be about one meeting a month for a total of 12, and some meetings in between as needed. Most will start at 6 p.m. and last at least 90 minutes.
Committee members must commit to attend two meetings that are three hours in length scheduled for July 18, 2018 and September 5, 2018 from 4 - 7 p.m.
To be considered for the Steering Committee, an application must be submitted to the City by 5 p.m. on June 25, 2018. City Council will select the Steering Committee members on July 2, 2018 and empanel the Committee on July 9, 2018.
