1. How do I get a copy of a police or accident report?

A copy of a police/accident report can be obtained either in person or by mail. To request a report you will need the case number if possible, the name of at least one of the parties involved, the date and time in which the incident took place, and the location of the incident. The fee schedule and additional information can be found on this website in Police Department under the Police Records tab. It may take three (3) business days to process the request once it is received at the Police Department Records Bureau.

Accidents that occurred after August 1, 2011, may be found at www.crashdocs.org/co-cityofwheatridge and, for an additional $5 convenience fee, drivers who were involved in the accident and their insurance companies, can download the accident report. The reports will usually be available within three (3) business days of the accident.

Citizens not wanting to pay the additional fee can still come to the police department to request a paper copy of the accident report. All persons will be required to complete a Records Access Request Form. Per state statute, you must sign this form acknowledging that the requested information will not be used for the direct solicitation of business for pecuniary gain, pursuant to C.R.S. 24-72-305.5.

Reports will not be prepared for release until a Records Access Request Form is completed and signed. Reports will not be released until the fees are paid in full. We are not able to accept credit or debit cards.

2. How do I check my criminal record/background check?

If you require a background or criminal history check that identifies all arrests statewide, you must obtain records from Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) in person at 690 Kipling St, Lakewood, CO 80221 or visit their website at CBI. CBI does assess a fee for this service.

If a background or criminal history check is for Wheat Ridge only, the request is made at the Wheat Ridge Police Records Bureau. The requestor must provide full name and date of birth of the person for whom the background or criminal history check is being run. There is a fee for this service. Wheat Ridge PD Fee Schedule

3. Can I call ahead so I will not have to wait to pick up my accident or police report?

No. It may take three (3) business days to process a report request once it is received at police records and must be paid for in advance. You may contact records at 303-235-2921 with questions.

4. I am looking for someone who was arrested. Who do I call for more information?

You may call the Wheat Ridge Police Records Bureau at 303-235-2921, Monday – Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, excluding holidays to inquire if the individual was transported to jail. Be advised that we only will have information on persons arrested by Wheat Ridge Police Department officers. Since the Wheat Ridge Police Deparment does not have a jail, you would then call the Jefferson County Jail at 303-271-5444 to obtain additional information.
