1.
When is the best time to swim laps at the Recreation Center?
There are eight lanes available Monday through Friday from 5– 8:55 a.m. and from 12–1 p.m. During other times, every attempt is made to leave two lanes available for lap swim. Depending on number of lanes available and the number of swimmers, guests may need to share lanes. For more, see
Recreation Activity Guides
for the Current Activities Guide or
Pools and Swimming
.
2.
Why do I have to be in the water with my child who is under 6?
Children under 5 years, including infants, are the most likely to experience drowning or near drowning accidents. Lifeguards are on duty but are there for the safety of the entire aquatic facility; lifeguards cannot watch just one child. Every time a lifeguard enters the pool for a rescue, it places the safety of the facility at risk. In addition, a rescue for the child can be very traumatic and may make swimming less enjoyable. For more, see the pool guidelines under
Pools and Swimming
.
3.
What are the water temperatures of the pools?
Staff attempts to maintain pool temperatures as follows: At the Recreation Center, the leisure pool is 88 degrees, the lap pool is 82 degrees, and the spa is 102 degrees. At the Outdoor Pool located in Anderson Park, the leisure pool is 86 degrees and the lap and slide pools are 82 degrees. Temperatures may vary based on maintenance and backwash schedules. For more, see
Pools and Swimming
.
4.
When enrolling for lessons, how do I determine my child’s swimming level?
Please review the Swim Lesson Placement Form at
Swim Lessons
. For a list of current swimming classes, see
Recreation Activity Guides
. If you have questions regarding placement, please call Wheat Ridge Aquatics (303) 231-1321. For questions regarding registration, please call (303) 231-1300.
5.
The swim class I want to enroll my child in is full. Can I move them up a class level?
This is not recommended. Moving a child to a level that they are not ready for is frustrating to the child and may be a safety issue for the class and the child. For more, see
Pools and Swimming
.
6.
Do I have to register for aqua exercise classes?
No, aqua exercise classes are included in the Recreation Center daily admission fees. For more, see
Recreation Activity Guides
for the current Activities Guide or
Pools and Swimming
.
7.
I would like to participate in a swim team, do you have one?
We have a USA team that uses the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center and one that is a summer club team that uses the Outdoor Pool at Anderson Park. To contact the USA team, please visit
Rocky Mountain Thunder Swimming
. For the summer club team, see
Wheat Ridge Piranhas Swim Team
http://go-piranhas.com).
8.

Our goal is to offer a schedule that reasonably accommodates all of our user groups. For a Lap Swimming schedule, see
